One of my good friends owns a 81 vw rabbit pickup (caddy). She's been working on it for a couple years now chipping away at one thing at a time. She asked me to rebuild a manual transmission. Its a 020 2h (close ratio) out of a 83 rabbit gti.
Enjoy the pics
5th housing removed
case split
emptied the bottom half of the case
got the case cleaned and power coated
ARP bolt kit for the ring gear, got rid of those crappy rivits
ring and nuts are on
torqued
added a new spider gear shim, and put the spider gears and bearings in
Checking the rolling torque of the differential. Everything was in spec, no new shims needed
new input and output shaft bearings/races
Checking rolling torque of output shaft
Starting assembly with new syncros
Added input shaft and other gears
Put the other half of the case on, 5th gear is assembled
80% slip kit, essentially its a poor man's/woman's limited slip differential. It works well for how simple it is.
completed and dressed
